The tractor industry needs to rethink advertised prices and use discounts more intelligently than as a simple “give-away”, according to McCormick Tractors sales director Jeremy Lamb, who suggests that the 'artificial' prices quoted in price lists, advertisements and press articles are inflated by as much as 30% to allow big ‘discounts’ to be given.
"These bear no relation to transaction prices and, while they may give people a nice feeling when they think they’re getting a big discount, it’s just an illusion.

Opico's new Pro models of its Variocast 8 (up to 6.5m working width) and Variocast 16 (up to 12.5m working width) feature a hydraulic fan to allow them to be used on wider cultivators and for higher seed rate applications.
As it provides increased airflow, the hydraulic fan is also claimed to enable more efficient operation on host machines where the hopper has to be mounted a considerable distance from the outlets.

Agricultural Engineers Association regional analysis of tractor registrations for the first quarter of 2007 indicates that arable farmers are beginning to gain confidence and invest in new machines, suggests the AEA.
While livestock areas were less strong, with a 10% dip in Wales after several strong years, a 7% fall in the South West and a 5% drop in Northern Ireland, the region showing the biggest increase was Yorks & Lancs, with a 59% rise in registrations over the comparative 2006 period.
