Indian giant to buy Land Rover

Tata Motors, part of the Indian Tata conglomerate which owns, among other firms, the Anglo-Dutch steel concern Corus, has agreed to buy the Land Rover business from Ford, in addition to sister marque Jaguar, for approx $2.3bn. The deal is expected to be complete by mid-2008. Tata chairman Ratan Tata says the firm plans to keep the marques' identities intact. Ford will continue to supply Jaguar and Land Rover for differing periods with components, technologies and engineering support.
