While farmers may this season be looking more closely at netwrap prices given the rise in oil costs, its value needs to be weighed against that of the crop it protects, suggests wrap specialist UAT. The firm's Graham Robson points out that a single roll will wrap over £4,000 worth of straw, or £6,000 of haylage.
"If the bale has exposed shoulders, the combined width of the exposed bale parts could equal 15% of its width - meaning the equivalent of a bale in seven is not covered."
