Amazone has added an 8.0m model to its Cirrus Grand seed drill range. The new drill is aimed at large farms and contractors working with tractors from 280hp.

A key feature of the Cirrus 8004-2C Grand is the new three-chamber hopper with a total capacity of 5,900l. Up to three different products can be individually metered at a ratio of 40:50:10.

For example, oilseed rape, fertiliser and slug pellets can be applied in a single pass. In addition, wheat can be sown together with the simultaneous application of fertiliser and micro-granules.

Individual row shut-off reduces seed and fertiliser wastage on headlands and in wedge shaped fields, and tramlining is controlled via the ISObus terminal. The distributor head adjusts automatically to ensure that the working width of the drill is independent of the respective tramline system.

The AutoPoint automatic measuring system has now been incorporated in the Cirrus 04 Grand. A sensor in the seed coulter determines the conveying time of the seed flowing from the metering unit to the coulter and automatically adjusts the switch-on and off points of the system on headlands. Claimed benefits include improved section control times and increased seeding precision.

New front tools include a crushboard to break up clods and level the seedbed, and the Cirrus Grand is also available with guide wheels in front of the discs for farms that carry out complete seedbed preparation before sowing.

The options list includes an narrower 12.5cm row spacing to the standard 16.6cm setting. The narrower version is said to be ideal for spring sowing and land with a high weed pressure.

Other new options include an on-board hydraulic system with a push-on PTO pump. Also available on the 9.0m Cirrus 9004-2C Grand, this enables the drill to be operated with tractors with a low hydraulic capacity. The optional air pre-heater increases the temperature of the air flow by around 8 degrees C to reduce condensation and prevent seed dressing or fertiliser dust from sticking in the conveyor system.
