Claas has reserved €6.5 million to further expand its tractor production site in Le Mans in France.

Scheduled for completion by the end of this year, the new 3,800m² multifunctional production facility is described as an important milestone in the expansion of the site’s capacity.

“It increases our operational flexibility, supports further vertical integration and expands our capacity to act in the global production network,” comments Thomas Spiering, chief operating officer of the Claas Group.

The company views the tractor business as a significant growth opportunity, and the expansion is viewed as a decisive step in preparing the site for the expected growth in production over the next ten years.

“Le Mans is the heart of our global tractor business,” adds Mr Spiering. “We have come to stay, and we have proven this by investing more than €80 million to date in the transformation of this site into a model of modern tractor manufacturing.”

Claas took over the Le Mans plant, as well as sites at Trangé (test and validation centre) and Vélizy (development) in 2003, and has since produced more than 200,000 tractors for the global market. The French plant currently makes tractors from 75 to 450hp.
