Ritchie Bros. sold nearly 3,000 agricultural equipment lots in the first six months of this year: the highest number in five years.

With a 31% year over-year increase in buyers and a 27% rise in bidders across auctions and digital marketplace, buyer activity was particularly strong from Germany, Italy, Australia and France, while the highest number of bidders came from Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Poland.

A significant share of the 3,000 lots were handled through Ritchie Bros.’ hub in Meppen, Germany, which hosted some of the largest agricultural auctions in Europe with over 1,000 lots.

The most frequently sold items included tractors, cultivators, balers, sprayers and combines. John Deere, New Holland, Fendt, Massey Ferguson and Deutz-Fahr were among the most transacted.

Although the sector is showing early signs of recovery, sluggish sales of new tractors and machinery continue to drive strong demand for used agricultural equipment.

Recent sales reflect continued market strength, such as the sale of a 2022 New Holland CR8.90 Revelation combine for €275,000 in France, a 2022 Fendt 936 Vario Gen7 Profi for €247,500 from Germany to Austria, and a 2020 John Deere 9700i self-propelled forage harvester for €200,000 (in France).

Keen to keep the momentum going, buyers will have access to a wide range of agricultural equipment at over 10 major unreserved auctions planned by Ritchie Bros this month and September. These will be held in Europe (Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain), the Middle East (UAE and Dubai), Australia, and the UK & Ireland.
