Fresh faced seed drills on the Horsch stand at Agritechnica will include new versions of the Avatar, Versa and Pronto.

The Avatar LC has a three-part 9,400-litre hopper, the largest tank capacity Horsch offers in Europe. This is split 50:15:35.

But of greater interest will be the new closer 20cm coulter spacing, the existing 25cm row width remains as the other option. This has been achieved by shallowing the disc angle slightly and positioning the coulters closer to their neighbours on the 12m drill.

The 7.2m Versa SW, a new addition to the trailed power harrow drill range means it can marry up with 36m tramlines in five passes instead of six with the already available 6.0m machine.

It has some suitably sized big wheels, all 1.20m in diameter, to help carry the drill in the typical wet, heavy soil condition. There are four 500mm tyres in the middle and 700s on the outside. Hopper capacity is 6,500 litres that can be split for seed and fert.

The 9.0m wide Pronto 9DC cultivator drill has been revamped. Like the 6 and 7, it benefits from a simpler, straight-line chassis that lifts up each segment (front packer, discs and coulters) in turn rather than raising the complete frame as on the previous version.

Not only does this make it lighter, it means you can have a clod board before and after the cultivator disc section. The model on show was also fitted with the wavy Cover Crush Disc.

The hopper capacity has been upped from 4,500-litres to 6,000-litres. This can be split for seed and fertiliser. For the latter, this can be mixed with the seed or you can opt for the PPF (Precision Placement Fertiliser) where it is placed separately by its own coulters.
