Claas is plugging the gap between the Scorpion 756 (7.0m) and 960 (9.0m) models with the 848; a 4.8t to 8.0m machine.

During loading and stacking, Dynamic Power automatically adjusts the speed of the 156hp Deutz four-cylinder engine on the 848 relative to the position of the joystick and thus to the desired lift and loader speed.

The engine speed is automatically reduced to save diesel when the telescopic arm is lowered without load, and engine speed lowers to a fuel saving 1,600rpm at 40km/hr. Additional fuel is saved by Dynamic Cooling, where the fan speed automatically adjusts to the required cooling demand.

The 848 is equipped with the fully automatic Varipower Plus drive as standard. Automatic Smart Loading functions include bucket return to the previously saved position; bucket shake and retraction of the telescopic boom. The load sensing hydraulic system has a capacity of up to 187l/min and 270 bar pressure.

There is a choice of single or double-acting connections at the rear, and the 848 stands on large wheels and comes standard with diff lock and boom suspension. The cab provides up to 360-degree all-round visibility, and up to three optional cameras can be fitted to minimise blind spots.

The 848 brings the total number of Scorpions to nine from 3.3t to 6.0t load capacities and maximum lift heights from 6.23 to 9.75m. They are all built at the Liebherr plant in Telfs, Austria.
