McCormick is in the process of adding a new 340hp model to the top end of its X8 range.

Sitting above the X8.627 (273hp) and X8.631 (313hp), power to the new 340hp X8.634 VT Drive continues to come from the same six-cylinder Stage V FPT N67 block with eVGT turbocharger. With 340hp on tap all the time, the new X8 range topper is equipped with the four-stage ZF TMT32 CVT. This reaches a maximum speed of 50km/hr at just 1580rpm (slowest speed is 40m/hr). There are three selectable rear pto speeds (540eco, 1000, 1000eco). A front pto is optional.

There will be some more changes on X8.634 VT Drive, but we will have to wait second half of 2026 to see them. What we can reveal now is that the X8 flagship uses the same Clever Cab as the other two models (the cab is also available on the X7.6 (LWB) and X7.4 and X7.6 (SWB), all of which are available in the UK.

Providing 16% more glazing, 14% larger interior volume, and 76mm higher than the previous structure, the Comfort Sky® glass coating not only helps to keep the interior cool, but also reduces noise levels to 67d(B)A.

Something that is new is the repositioned handle and 62mm wider door opening to provide easier access. The new Grammer seat adds a swivelling headrest, and the climate control system has been improved. Also new are the larger rear window, rear-view mirrors, and rear LED lights.

Fully compatible with the latest generation smartphones, the new Data Screen Manager (DSM) Plus system, which will also be offered on the other two X8s, has two 12” monitors (a digital dashboard instrument cluster and an armrest-mounted touchscreen) for full control of all the functions.

These include the new generation of Precision Steering Management with RTK directly managed from the main screen on the armrest, ISObus, and customisable menus such as MyFunction, MyLights, and hydraulic management.

The comfort package includes an Alpine DAB+ audio system with 7” touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, four Alpine speakers, air-conditioned storage compartments, and new LED headlights.

The equipment is completed with the EazyGrip fully automatic tyre inflation and deflation system, and central greasing system.

Standard equipment on the X8.634 VT Drive includes a suspended front axle with integrated brakes. Electronically controlled from the multifunction armrest, the fully floating suspension is automatic above 15km/hr.

Maximum rear lift capacity is 12t and the closed-centre load-sensing hydraulics deliver a flow rate of 212l/min with a dedicated 115l/min steering pump. Up to six rear and three front spools are provided and supplied through a separate circuit from the transmission, with a separate 90-litre tank. McCormick digital solutions, Farm and Fleet & Remote Diagnostics Management, are also available on all X8 VT-Drive models.

Incidentally, there will be no McCormick or Landini tractors on display at Agritechnica next month. Parent company Argo Tractors does not have a stand at this year’s show.
