Claas has secured a gold medal in the Agritechnica innovation award for a large square baler concept that achieves throughputs of up to 70t/hr in straw.

Destined to sit above the Quadrant, bale size is 1.20m x 90cm with a constant density of 210kg/m³ (peak up to 235 kg/m³).

The technical details are under wraps until the show, but the main gearbox is integrated into the frame with a straight-line power flow. The drive operates with two longitudinal flywheels, each running at 1,650rpm.

Power transfer is handled solely through enclosed gearboxes, in addition to two power belts. Sensors in the rotor or rake gear continuously monitor gear loads and automatically adjust assistance systems, such as AI-assisted density control and bale length.

The new baler also has a new mechanically driven single-row packer for the pre-chamber and a newly designed double-loop knotter.
