Agritechnica provided the first opportunity in Europe to see John Deere’s E-Power 130hp electric tractor prototype.

Repetitive tasks in orchards, vineyards, vegetable and livestock farms are expected to be the big markets for the fully electric tractor, which supports a new base design.

There are no gear levers in the cab. Drive is via a foot pedal or hand lever.

With configurable options for cab type, axles, tyres, and up to five Kreisel 39kWh batteries, the tractor is said to be able to carry out several hours of light work, such as tedding, spraying or raking. Swapping batteries is said to be quick and easy, and the company is exploring various charging solutions.

The development goal was to give the electric tractor the look and feel and match the performance of a 130hp (100kW) diesel. Plus, there are additional benefits of electric drive including instant torque, smooth acceleration, reduced maintenance, and a quieter and simpler driving experience.

87kW of power is available at the pto and 82kW for the electric drivetrain. Compatible with existing implements, the E Power tractor has the capability to provide off-board electricity, but this has not yet been done on the prototype.

Previewed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas earlier this year, the Agritechnica prototype will remain in Europe. First stop will be Mannheim after which it will be trucked to Spain for testing and validation.

An autonomy kit can be fitted to the tractor.

Prototypes in multiple configurations have been tested throughout 2025, and the plan is to have a limited number of models released by the end of 2027 in North America. The European road map has not yet been decided.

Deere & Company acquired majority ownership in Kreisel Electric in December 2021, an Austrian company that develops electric battery modules and packs, and a charging infrastructure platform. More information:
