Making over 650 buildings per year, Hörmann was displaying this typical wooden truss example with solar panels fitted directly to the purlins.
Stefan Hörmann points out that fitting the panels directly costs approximately five to 10% more than mounting the PV panels onto a cladded roof. But even, owners were starting to favour the direct fit option.

He adds that in Germany, even farm buildings need to be fire certified and that steel alternatives require specialist paint to meet the same time frame as wood, a building material that is abundantly available to the Bavarian-based Rudolf Hörmann. It can produce clear span buildings up to 60m, where the layered timber will be around 2.50m deep at the haunch. A more typical farm-build would be 41m wide and then 80 to 100m long. It provides a full planning to completed erection service.
