Driving impression: Case IH CS100 tractor Recently refocused as the home of Case IH in Europe, the brand’s Austrian St Valentin factory is producing the majority of Case IH’s mid-power tractors for the region. Martin Rickatson discovers why this output now includes a third model in the 100hp sector
When it bought the Steyr ag tractor business back in 1996, Case IH boosted its presence in mid-Europe overnight. But as the Austrian manufacturer’s products weren’t well-known outside of the region, it was perhaps a brave move to introduce rebadged/reliveried Steyr tractors into the more widely sold Case IH range – to fill certain power gaps and offer alternatives to specific models.
As it turned out, the early doubters were soon proved wrong when the CS150 and, in particular, the CS94 unit, became very strong sellers in the UK market and other territories where Steyr products had not traditionally sold in large numbers. The CS94 was eventually phased out in 2003, its place in the line-up being taken by the MXc and MX Maxxum, and then latterly by the MXU and JXU. But just over three years on, customer demand has now led Case IH to revise and reintroduce the smaller CS model in the shape of the CS100.
