Used Machinery: At the launch of the Axion 800 tractor series in late-2006, much was made of the fact that these models were the first to be developed by Claas as opposed to being heavily dependent on the Renault heritage of other models at the time. More important, however, is that the nominal 163 to 225hp Axion series was designed to meet the demand for a ‘lighter’ prime mover, with non-ballasted tractors weighing in at between 7t and 8t depending on model. UK sales grew year on year, so used examples are not hard to find
Claas initially offered the Axion series with five different power outputs, all featuring what subsequently became the ‘top’ Cebis spec. In 2008, the range was trimmed to four and included a reduced entry-level CIS spec. Axion Cmatic models, with a ZF-sourced CVT, were also launched in 2008. These models are not covered specifically in this article, but the core details still apply.
Basic model specs are listed separately, with the 2008 introduction of Claas Power Management ‘power boost’ on the Axion 810 and 820 perhaps listing as the biggest point to note. Aside from a slight hike in rated power at 2,200rpm, respective maximum outputs for the Axion 810 and Axion 820 climb from 178hp and 197hp to 213hp and 232hp: CPM kicks in at working speeds of around 7-8km/hr in the C1 transmission range and above, when the load in the pto increases or there is a rise in demand from the hydraulics. Maximum output for both models increases by around 30hp.
