Five new models in the 60hp to 95hp bracket make up New Holland’s 35 (Ford) and L (Fiat) tractor series. From both inside and out, the new models appear very modern compared with their predecessors. This report reveals what is hidden beneath the attractive exterior.

New Holland’s latest range of mid-size tractors have a sporty appearance, thanks in part to their new sloping bonnet. But we have learnt not to judge a tractor by its looks. When testing another manufacturer’s “new” tractors in this power range we discovered that they looked new but actually contained some rather dated designs. So we took a slow careful look at the details on our New Holland tractor.

Up in the cab, looking for familiar components, we found the Fiat dashboard; the Fiat Lift-o-Matic mechanical one-touch lift control system; the gearsticks are typically Fiat; and Ford’s yellow knob to control electric pto engagement, which is switched off by a flick of the button. So is the new 35/L series just a mix of (hopefully the best) Fiat and Ford elements?
