Some monikers can be a little misleading. While Valtra’s – formerly Valmet – HiTech badge aptly describes its semi-powershift transmission, the name actually refers only to that gearbox. The idea that the whole tractor is ‘high tech’ could be confusing, because it’s certainly not all whistles and bells within the 66kW/90hp Valtra 6350. Then again, of course, not every tractor buyer is looking for the latest gadgetry on a sub-100hp workhorse.
Some may see a benefit in the fact that the Valtra 6350 HiTech is not a state-of-the-art tractor throughout. After all, high on tech can mean short on tractor life and long on repair bills. As such the Valtra could fit the bill for buyers looking for a sturdy machine that features some modern specs but only where they are of genuine merit. To test these theories, we put the Valtra 6350 through the profi tractor test.
When compared to the curvy lines sported by some of its competitors, the Valtra’s exterior styling looks in need of refreshing. The boxy design does now seem a bit outdated – no matter how long its Valtra-typical nose protrudes over the front axle, where the engine is mounted.
The 6350 engine, too, prompts both positive and negative comments. The four-cylinder turbocharged Sisu unit delivers 66kW/90hp rated output at 2,200rpm. We were very surprised at the claimed maximum pto output, which is a low 55.0kW and translates into losses as high as 16.7%. We were therefore very keen to see what the DLG test station made of these claims.
