Driving impression:The Hardi Alpha and its distinctive ‘droop snoot’ may not win many beauty contests, but that beauty – or lack of it – is only paint deep. Much more important is how the sprayer performs out in the field, and it’s here that the Alpha really scores. profi takes a brief drive in Hardi’s flagship
When weighing up the selfpropelled versus trailed argument, sprayer talk gets complicated. Price is arguably the biggest factor, with even the lowest spec selfpropelled struggling to qualify as a budget option. Consider the Hardi Alpha driven here, which when fully specced carries a hefty £55,000 tag. Justification? Yes, it’s possible – but only when full account is given to the Alpha’s acre-gobbling capacity, its impressive manoeuvrability for a machine so big, and its long-legged 1m ground clearance. Even then it’s difficult, and a sizeable acreage is needed to make the sums stack up.
