Driving impression: Kellands Jacto Uniport 2500 SP sprayer While its acquisition of the Multidrive tractor product has extended Kellands’ SP sprayer offering out into higher capacity territory, the introduction of the Brazilian Jacto range of self- propelled sprayers takes the Agribuggy firm fully into the high output – and perhaps more importantly, high clearance – marketplace. The name may not yet be familiar to UK farmers, but the Brazilian firm Jacto certainly couldn’t be labelled as a novice in the sprayer business. Based near Sao Paulo, the outfit produces a staggering 14 self-propelled machines each day in peak season, and exports some 80% of total production, from little knapsacks through trailed machines to SPs. The company has sold its sprayers in a number of western European countries for some time, as well as making a recent push out into eastern Europe, but it was at Cereals 2004 that the Jacto self-propelled unit was introduced to UK farmers by Kellands.
With this import arrangement, Glos-based Kellands, which has owned the rights to the Agribuggy range of LGP vehicles since 2000 and bought the Multidrive business in 2005, moves up into the high-capacity, high-clearance market. The Jacto Uniport 2500 model gives Kellands an entry into the high-output UK market but at a price it says makes it a competitive, economic alternative to UK/European-made units. Kellands confirms that it has had long-established contact with Jacto, exploring ideas to share/develop technology, and adds that it is now taking an active role in helping the Brazilian company tailor its machinery to the European market.
