DRIVING IMPRESSION: Ah, the character-building task of gathering stones, a chore that has kept children gainfully occupied on school holidays since … well, schools had holidays. But if you have acres to cover, then there are machines capable of giving you more output and considerably less earache. One of these is Kongskilde’s 6.0m wide StoneBear 2.60

One of the more unusual machines Kongskilde makes is the StoneBear, a bigger brother to the Juko stone collector. Sweeping a 6.0m path across the field, the new model is produced at the Kutno factory in Poland.

So, to Bear detail. The machine is coupled up via a K80 ball or clevis hitch, and doubleacting spools are needed for the drawbar, folding the wings, the hopper and to lift the ADR-sourced axle. The Bondioli and Pavesi pto shaft is worked in the 540rpm speed range, with power splitting at a transfer box to the two rakes and big central rotor. Driveline protection is provided by a 1,200Nm slip clutch.

The two rakes are each powered via five drive belts on the outer end of the rotors, so access isn’t an issue. With the tractor supplying a 420rpm input, the tines work at 126rpm and counter rotate to the direction of travel. The 33 tines on each rotor are made from Hardox 500 square steel.
