DRIVING IMPRESSION: Plough fans visiting Agritechnica will no doubt have spotted the 2500 i-Plough on the Kverneland stand. This is the first in the Norwegian firm’s range of new generation ploughs, and we had a chance to take a closer look at the six-furrow, shear-bolt model with hydraulic vari-width in the Netherlands this summer
Cast your mind back to Agritechnica 2013, and you may recall Kverneland showing a new headstock and some other key furrow rolling components tucked behind a glass screen for showgoers to ponder. Originally the concept aim was to trim the Kverneland plough portfolio and replace the ES/LS, EG/LB and ED/LD ranges, but the i-Plough has so many auto features that it’ll now run alongside to give buyers more choice.
Main parameters for the new development were a more modern styling, simple setting system, easier servicing and maintenance, low weight and more auto functions — in other words, to bring the Kverneland plough design into the 21st century with some electronic wizardry and fresh thinking. Well, the marketing team’s list of wishes seems to have been granted by the engineering department, with the 2500 i-Plough being the first of a new line of Kverneland ploughs. Initially, the 2500 i-Plough looks a ‘normal’ mounted reversible model with a choice of four to six furrows that can be pulled behind 150-280hp tractors. The headstock, beam, bodies, skimmer and rear wheel are shared across the range. The new items that are less obvious, but will make the biggest difference, line up as follows:
■ Road transport concept
■ Rear wheel attachment system
■ Operation and setting concept
■ Body legs and and manure skimmer adjustment.
