When we tested Lemken’s Vari-EuroPlough reversible, we also assessed the differences between the firm’s two press types, the mounted FixPack and stand-alone VarioPack. Our conclusions are set out below

Designs don’t come much more straightforward than the FixPack’s: A 33cm diameter cage roller pivots on a 80mm box-section steel frame, mounted in front of the first body. The degree of crumbling is adjusted via a rear levelling bar, as on the Terratilth, and a 27cm diameter flat bar roller is available as an option.

Although the FixPack, together with its mounted box-section frame, only scales 300kg, the unit’s pressing effect is enhanced by transferring some of the plough’s bulk through to the packer. Lemken says that this boosts available consolidating weight up to 700-1,100kg. So what are the benefits and drawbacks of the FixPack, when compared with the more conventional VarioPack? We ran the two systems alongside each other as part of our EuroPlough test (see previous pages).
