Driving impression: Kverneland Accord DG 12000 drill Totting up the CX-Ultra coulters on a 12m Kverneland Accord DG 12000 drill is no simple task – there are 96 of them. We had the opportunity to try out one of these monster seeders last autumn
Cast your mind back to Cereals 2008 which, for that year, was staged at Leadenham, Lincs. Dominating the entrance to the event was the massive Kverneland DG 12000 drill, complete with 12m working width and 6,000-litre hopper, and it’s this machine that we focus on here.
Getting straight down to design detail, the seeder attaches to powering tractor via either Cat III N or Cat IV N link ends. The extra long drawbar pivots close to the tractor so that tight headland turns are possible, and that applies even when the drill tractor is dualled up with an extra set of rear rubber. Interestingly, there’s a big 400kg weight attached up at the front, although, as it turns out, this extra ballast serves an important purpose as it eliminates the risk of the drill ending up nose light. And before leaving the front end of the DG, it’s worth noting that Kverneland has been conscientious in its labelling of the various hoses – there’s no excuse for mixing up DG pipework – and a substantial holder allows the operator to stow all the couplings in a tidy fashion when the drill is parked up.
