If you previously wanted a 3.0m drill from the Väderstad stable, your only choice was limited to the old-school box drill Rapid. But now there is another option — a new-look, new generation of Spirit that may well be a sign of things to come
There’s no doubt you’ll have glimpsed at the pictures of the Spirit R and thought ‘that looks a little different’. And you’d be right — ‘cos it is. Granted, the dirt digging bits will be familiar to existing Spirit users, such as those in Scotland and Ireland where over the past four years the folding version of the cultivator drill has proved popular. In contrast, the new Spirit R is a non-folding, rigid machine, and Väderstad is not hiding the fact that this could be a trend setter for its future drill models. It is available in 3.0m and 4.0m working widths so smaller area farmers can once again have access to a pneumatic drill option from the Swedish manufacturer.
Down below, the wishbone chassis carries the System Disc Aggressive cultivation module, and, as the drill is also expected to work on ploughed ground, there is the option of a leading cross board and track eradicator tines. The 450mm discs are configured in an X pattern (i.e. the gangs are split so half of the discs go to the left, the other half to the right) to stop the drill crabbing. These are followed by new tractor-cleat 460/60 R16.5 tyres which have greater clearance with their neighbours to reduce any risk of blocking
