Driving impression: Kuhn/Rauch AGT 6036 pneumatic fertiliser spreader With increasing interest in moving to 36m wide tramlines for spraying work it is inevitably the fertiliser spreader that struggles to keep up – and particularly so when trying to throw lighter material out to full width on a windy day. Rauch’s answer is to take another look at ‘pneumatics’
There are a number of twin-disc spreaders on the market that claim to be capable of broadcasting urea accurately to 36m. This may well be true, but can they still do it when those winds start to blow and the quality of the fertiliser… let’s just say is ‘less than perfect’?
As all fert spreader manufacturers acknowledge, their machines are asked to perform under a range of conditions, distributing a product that can differ, to an occasionally staggering degree, in its quality. Which is why some growers tramline at 18m and 36m, running their sprayer down alternate tracks but pegging the spreader back to the narrower 18m bout.
