USED MACHINERY: In 1986, Norwegian company Tellesdal developed the 1200 series round bale linkage-mounted satellite wrapper for round bales up to 1.50m in diameter. Then, in 2001, Tanco took over production and development, with a good number of these wrappers available on the secondhand market. What has changed over the years, and how do you secure the ‘ideal’ used buy?

The original Tellesdal 1200 wrapper was superseded in 1989 by the 1300 series, with the larger chassis 1500 introduced at the same time for export to European markets. These 1500 series wrappers were developed to handle bales of up to 1.80m in diameter. Subsequent machine development saw the introduction of the 1504 in 1994, and it’s these models that brought the ability to wrap square as well as round bales.

In 2001, Tanco took over Tellesdal and moved development, design and production to its works in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, Ireland. Up until this date, Tellesdal wrappers were imported into the UK by Danagri, with many Tellesdall 1504 wrappers sold from 1994 still working in the UK, Ireland and farther afield.

As to the earlier 1200, 1300 and 1500 units, these will be a rare find in the UK and Ireland, but what was the 1300 series was subsequently replaced by the current S-series (profi driving impression 04/2018) following the increased demand to wrap smaller round bales (see separate section). Most popular are the round and square bale wrapping 1504 and following replacement
models, the 1514 and then 1540 (see the ‘Key developments’ panel). In their basic design, these roller pick-up and satellite film dispenser wrappers have evolved, but this is not the same as suggesting there have been no improvements in over 30 years of production.

The original 1500 had two rollers to pick up round bales and a long-type film cutter. By 1994 and the introduction of the 1504 model, the bale pick-up and handling system had changed to the still current four-roll design and with the ability to pick up and wrap both square and round bales.
