BvL builds over 1,000 feeders each year, of which 30 are selfpropelled units. The German maker has recently introduced a new twin-auger self-propelled, the V-Mix Drive Maximus Plus 21-2S. With more SP interest coming from the UK, we take a closer look
One of the plus points for a self-propelled diet feeder is the time it can save, especially in a yard where there is a bit of travelling between the clamps, concentrates and stock buildings. Another big benefit is mixing ability.
BvL’s twin auger, self-propelled solution is the intriguingly labelled V-Mix Drive Maximus Plus 21-2S. So, surely there must be some German logic to the lengthy model name. Sort of. Drive Maximus Plus refers to the self-propelled element with loader and milling head, whereas the 21-2S means this is a 21m³ machine with two mixing augers.
Shoehorned into the space to the right of the boom and ahead of the front axle is a 6.7-litre, 165kW/224hp FPT motor, which is axially mounted. Also nestled into the available space are the radiator pack and air filters. The cooling system has a reversible hydraulically powered fan that should be up to the task of dealing with dusty feedstuffs and keeping the engine running sweet. The hydraulic oil filter and the radiator for the air-conditioning system reside on the machine’s left-hand side.
