Vicon is aiming to have a serious crack at the crowded trailed sprayer market by adding two ranges offering the latest technology alongside no-nonsense, practical design. While the 3,000-litre iXtrack T3 was shown at LAMMA, Vicon has now added a second range in the volume-selling 4,000-litre bracket. Check it out
Vicon has given its trailed sprayer range a major revamp. Aimed at the 4,000-litre user is the iXtrack T4, which now features a red rather than the more familiar yellow tank, with grey frames and guards. Shown as a concept at Agritechnica four years ago, customer feedback identified stability, liquid management, precision spraying, intelligent electronics and ease of use as priorities.
“With many regions of the UK having undulating land, stability is important,” comments Vicon’s UK general manager, David Furber, “So the T3 and T4 feature axle steering, a low centre of gravity from the tank design and a compact outline.”
The spray pack is mounted on a central frame, allowing the outfit to be narrower and giving a steering angle of 32°. Turning radius is 4.15-4.40m on the T3 and a slightly bigger 5.25-5.5m on the T4 due to the extra chassis length accommodating the larger tank capacity. Pivoting mudguards keep the boom clean as the sprayer steers, and track widths can be manually adjusted from 1.50-2.25m.
Vicon, or Rau as it was back then, has used steering axles since 2002, but the latest axles and steering cylinders reduce the steering angle; it is also easier to take off the tractor as the potentiometer is just mounted via two cables. There’s a choice of air, hydraulic or load dependent braking, and where Norac air nozzle shut-off and air brakes are specified, both can be run from the tractor’s air system
