Though on the cards for some time, Chafer has now built and sold its first Defender self-propelled sprayer.

The 3,000- or 3,500-litre machine is basically a scaled-down version of its 4,000-/5,000-litre big Interceptor brother, incorporating the same Deutz six-cyl engine (180hp rather than 240hp), 40km/hr CVT transmission and New Holland-sourced cab.

Wheelbase is 3.3m (30cm shorter than the Interceptor), and boom widths top out at 30m. Price of a 3,000-litre/24m Defender, complete with auto section control and two sets of wheels, is £174,000.
