Described as a versatile four-pot range that packs large tractor technology in a compact format, the new Arion 5 Cmatic CVT series comprises three models from 145 to 180hp.
Succeeding the Arion 500 range, the 4.5-litre four-cylinder engine in the new Arion 5 models; 5.140, 5.160 and 5.180, generates 145hp, 165hp and 180hp respectively.
With exterior looks inspired by other recently launched tractors in the Claas family, the high level of standard spec is targeted to appeal to the firm’s Lexion and Jaguar customers. This includes a suspended cab and front axle with Cebis equipment and CMotion, and auto aircon. There is also a new lighting concept with up to 20 LED lights and new cab entry step lighting.

Options for operators seeking even higher levels of comfort include new premium seats with massage function, seat ventilation and heater, a high-end multimedia system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB+, and the dynamic steering system for half the number of steering wheel turns.
The CMatic CVT with adaptive power train management comes with Auto Load Anticipation, an algorithm-controlled system that detects load spikes in advance when lowering tillage implements. The engine speed is proactively increased – whilst simultaneously adjusting the transmission – before the load spike occurs, to prevent drops in engine speed.
Further functions regulate engine speed and gear shifting depending on load and driving speed. This ensures that the required power is delivered under all conditions.
Other standouts on the new models include greater safety during transport thanks to the automatic trailer overrun brake, and the wheel loader mode for front loader operations is said to increase comfort and precision with less tyre wear.
For precise track guidance using the GPS Pilot Cemis 1200 as a steering terminal, the optimum reference lines can be planned in advance in Claas connect based on the field boundaries and sent to the machine online as a job, or – as is now also possible – shared directly from machine to machine – for example, from the Arion 5 Cmatic with a four-rotor rake to the Jaguar forage harvester following behind.
The new automatic reference track change function automatically identifies the appropriate or logical reference track based on the vehicle’s position and direction of travel, and switches automatically between different reference tracks.
This means that, for example, when switching to headland reference tracks or when working on wedges with a different reference track, the driver does not need to intervene to switch these manually.
The first public outing of the new tractors will be at the French Innov-Agri show on 9 and 10 September.
