The first month of this year saw a continuation of last year’s strong demand for new tractors and combines in the US.

January data just published by the Association of Equipment manufacturers (AEM) shows prominent growth in all but two categories, indicating a strong sales trends within the industry despite a weak overall farm economy.

Total tractor sales in North America rose by nearly 5% in January to nearly 12,000 units. The only fly in the ointment was the 40-100hp sector which declined by nearly 7% and sales of 100hp+ tractors fell by 3.5%. New combine sales increased by 14.5% in January to 261 units.

According to the AEM, the number of tractors sold in the US last year increased by 7% to nearly 236,000 and combine sales were up 18% to around 4,850.
