Developed to cope with the increased size and capacity of modern umbilical systems, Tramspread says its new range of shug couplings enables drag hose lengths to be quickly and safely extended whilst preventing potential blowouts.

Part of a range of new equipment that also includes hose pinchers manufactured by the Suffolk-based company, the couplings are claimed to be easy to use and will save time when setting up to spread umbilically.

Made from anodised aluminium, the universal configuration allows users to interchange hoses without the need for a reducer, and the clamp ring design allows coupling and uncoupling without the need for additional tools. The company says this saves time and can help prevent unnecessary spills.

“As farms become larger and the need to reduce soil compaction increases, we are seeing longer umbilical hoses being ordered here and by users abroad,” explains Tramspread director Edwin Baker.

“We want to make sure that as hose drags are increased the risk of blowouts is kept to a minimum and these shugs will certainly help.”
