Vicon has developed a fully automated sensor-based solution that provides real time data dry matter data when working with a disc mower conditioner.

Positioned above the conditioning rotor, the Vicon DM sensor detects and measures the crop as it passes through the mower, and the actual value is displayed live on a screen in the cab. Typical examples of how this information can be used is to adjust the conditioning intensity or change the mower from wide spreading to merging the crop into one swath.

“Today, dry matter is typically measured at the end of the process, comments Per Sørensen, product director for disc mowers at Kverneland Group. “With the DM Sensor, that information is available from the beginning, when it’s possible to impact the complete process the most.”

The system provides a heat map of each field. This can also be used to determine the optimal timing for the rake, merger, baler or forage harvester, and the heat map overview can also be used to prioritise which fields need to be tackled first. Contractors can share the dry matter data with customers.
