Sales of new cultivation equipment, drills, fertiliser spreaders and sprayers to EU arable farms experienced double-digit falls last year with preliminary estimates for the overall market down by 14% to €3.09 billion. According to European farm machinery organisation CEMA, low commodity prices and the comparatively low income of farmers that comes with them are the principle reasons for the fall in demand, which saw sales of sprayers, fertiliser spreaders and seed drills fall by 12%, and soil-engaging kit volumes down by 16%. The organisation expects the total EU market for arable farm machinery to decline by around 11% this year. New cultivation equipment sales are forecast to fall by around 4%, while demand for sprayers, fertiliser spreaders and seed drills could drop by as much as 19%. B
