The Tele-VFR option on the latest McConnel 77-Series Power Arm range brings advanced telescopic-variable forward reach capability to the mid-range sector.

Previously reserved for the company’s flagship heavy-duty machines, the 77-Series Tele-VFR armset has been redesigned to suit the machine. The result is said to deliver the strength, movement and precision required for professional verge and hedge maintenance while maintaining the machine’s compact profile.

Built in the UK at McConnel’s Ludlow facility, a key development is the use of a phased ram system to maintain the correct flailhead position as the arm is moved forward and back. This replaces the mechanical parallelogram system used on larger machines, helping to reduce weight while increasing the available range of movement. The flailhead angling ram has also been repositioned to improve the overall arm profile and support greater manoeuvrability in challenging working environments.

Tele-VFR technology allows the operator to bring the cutting head further forward for improved visibility, helping them keep the flailhead within a more natural field of view while maintaining awareness of the road and terrain ahead. This can support higher working speeds, greater precision and improved comfort over long operating days.

The telescopic extension also provides added reach when required, enabling operators to work more effectively around roadside obstacles, signs, posts and street furniture. In confined lanes or restricted environments, the arm can also be positioned behind the tractor wheel for close-in cutting, giving operators greater flexibility where space is limited.

The larger-diameter pivot pins provide a 48% increase in bush contact area for improved durability, and the standard hydraulics provide 70hp (85hp optional).

The new models come with a 180-litre hydraulic tank, high-capacity oil cooler, electric rotor control, soft start rotor engagement, LED road lighting, redesigned hydraulic tank and a two-piece rear guard for improved service access. An integrated debris blower, mounted within the rear guard, is also available.
