John Deere is building a new distribution centre in Indiana and an excavator factory in North Carolina. Both are set to open early next year.
Anticipated to generate around 150 new jobs, the new distribution centre near Hebron, Indiana, will be designed to streamline delivery of equipment and parts for US based agriculture, construction, forestry, mining and groundcare customers.
The company will continue to maintain its primary North American parts distribution centre in Milan, Illinois, which has been in operation since 1973 and employs about 1,200 people.
The new US$70 million excavator factory in Kernersville, North Carolina, will assume production of future generation excavators previously manufactured in Japan. Providing more than 150 jobs, John Deere says that the new plant will produce the only excavator designed, developed, and manufactured in North America.
“These investments further demonstrate our commitment to invest US$20 billion in US manufacturing over the next 10 years,” said John May, chairman and CEO of John Deere. “We believe in building America, and these projects represent our intent to continue driving innovation and job creation in the United States.”
