The Duraflo discs and vanes from British company Simcox are designed to improve spreading efficiency and lower maintenance costs when spreading lime.
Developed over seven years, and initially tested on a Gustrower machine, the first set was sold in August 2022. Unlike most spreaders where the vane is mounted on a base plate and bolted to the disc, the spreading vane on the patent pending Duraflo systemslots through the disc and is secured by a locking nut.
“By slotting through the disc, the product being spread flows freely along it and onto and off the vane with no obstruction,” comments Simcox director Graham Simcox. “Vanes remain cleaner for a constant spread pattern, and the one-piece no-weld design lasts up to twice as long as conventional lime spreading discs and vanes. Also, one retaining bolt per vane makes maintenance a breeze, slashing time spent in the workshop.”

Following many years in the farm machinery industry, Graham, who has an engineering background, started Simcox in 2018. Based near Shrewsbury, he works alongside a lime supply and spreading contractor, which is where the idea for the Duraflo concept was born.
“We recognised a need for more robust and longer-lasting components in lime spreading equipment, which led us to design and manufacture these specialist parts.”
Made from 5mm Hardox, the discs and vanes are compatible with leading brands such as Bredal, Agrispread, Gustrower, and Spreadpoint. “The beauty of the Duraflo system means it can be fitted to any brand of lime spreader and developments are ongoing. No modifications are required making them a hassle-free upgrade for any lime spreading operation.”
Prices vary slightly depending on the machine, but it costs around £1,000 (exc. VAT) to convert a lime spreader to the Duraflo system.
