Fendt has previewed the Gen 4 versions of the 500 Vario ahead of a public debut at Agritechnica where a new range of 300s will also be launched.
Next month’s driving impression will dive into more of the detail on the new four model 500 range, so this is just a quick synopsis. The Gen 4s ditch the Deutz engine for an Agco Power Core 50. This is still a four cylinder but with a displacement of 5.0 litres and the low engine speed concept.
The long-standing Vario unit has also been ousted for a VarioDrive unit which as well as having the same benefits as the larger models also means it turns significantly tighter than the models it replaces. The remains more or less unchanged, but the hydraulics have been improved.

The five model 300 Vario Gen 5 also get Dynamic Performance as part of its freshen up with new styling to match other Fendt tractors. These continue with the 103-152hp Agco Power engine and single speed ML75 Vario transmission with a top speed of 40km/hr. With DP this adds an extra 10hp.
The big changes are in regard to the hydraulic system and the number of couplers – up to seven are now possible from a mix of front, mid-mount and rear spools. A third valve means loaders can do three functions at once on the new Cargo 4.75 loader.
