It is not just the 41-knife chopping system that makes Krone’s new high output baler wrapper, the CombiPack HDP, different from the competition.
It uses a gearbox drive system for the full-width belt variable chamber baler, there are no chains, even for the pick-up. This is powered hydraulically, which has allowed the engineering team to add an extra row of tines and increase the width to 2.24m.

It can also automatically alter its speed to match the tractor. The Hardox rotor is included in the gearbox driveline on the right-hand side of the machine. This can handle up to 340hp and is rated to 5,000Nm.
To make it work and help achieve an output of 40 bales per hour Krone says you need around 250hp in front of the HDP. The drawer for the chopping unit slides out to the side for swapping out the 41 knives. You can also manually select five, 20 or 21 if you don’t want its 27mm chop which it states is the shortest on the market.

Krone adds that this short chop will help reduce mixing times and provide a more homogonous ration when using a diet feeder. There are two binding units which can both be loaded with film and/or net. To keep up the pace, there is a kicker to send the readied bale on its way to the wrapping table. Twin-satellites spin at up to 40rpm.
We will have more details about the CombiPack HDP in our next issue, and the machine will be on the Krone stand at Agritechnica.
