The Institute of Agricultural Engineers recently honoured Sparex Group managing director Jeremy Burgess by awarding him the Michael Dwyer Memorial Prize for outstanding progress in the agricultural engineering industry. Jeremy began his career in 1981 with an apprenticeship with the retail division of David Brown Tractors and after completing an engineering degree at Cranfield University joined Massey Ferguson as a Design Engineer. Over a 22 year period he progressed through a number of technical and commercial roles in Massey Ferguson and AGCO latterly as director of Africa and Middle East operations. Since January 2012 Jeremy has been managing director of the Sparex Group. Speaking at the award ceremony Mr Burgess said he felt very honoured to be recognised by his peers. “I had the privilege to meet Dr Dwyer many years ago at Wrest Park Silsoe and I am very familiar with the pioneering research work he completed in the field of tractor design and performance,” he said. “It is therefore particularly significant as someone who has spent a career in the tractor industry to receive this award.” The accompanying picture shows Jeremy (left) accepting the award from IAgrE president Mark Kibblewhite at the Institute’s annual general meeting.
