French startup Seederal has released a picture of its first in-house developed electric tractor.
Looking very different to the earlier 160hp prototype based on a JCB Fastrac, the French company’s first in-house made electric tractor was assembled in a newly opened workshop in Guipavas (between Brest and Rennes).
Seederal, which was created in 2021 by engineers Arthur Rivoal and Antoine Venet, also makes the battery. Developed specifically for agricultural use and integrated into the tractor, it is designed to withstand long cycles and high loads. Seederal reckons that it offers a much longer service life. Working range is around eight hours. The fast-charging option is said to take two hours to recharge the battery from 0-100% (standard charger take eight to 10 hours).
Seederal’s first electric tractor prototype was based on a JCB Fastrac (4000 series).
The French firm has partnered with Carraro to develop the powertrain, and the Independent Front Unit, a specially developed front axle, was jointly developed by the two teams. This should provide more stability on uneven terrain and less vibration for the driver. Seederal is also working with Michelin to optimize the torque between the electric drive and the tyres.
Existing implements can be used through the PTO, hydraulics or electric power supply, and continuous traction distribution across all four wheels is said to improve grip and reduce wheel slip. The tractor includes advanced driver assistance and implement management systems.
Detailed technical specifications have not yet been released as the electric tractor is still in the development phase. It is not yet known when it will make it to the production stage and how much it will cost. The company says a few tweaks are needed, but after a couple of years and hundreds of hours of testing with the JCB-based prototype, the company does not intend to leave its first in-house developed electric tractor in the workshop for long.
