New Zealand firm Taege had a decent line-up of its seed drills and cultivators on display and working on the demo plots at Diddly Squat.
Using angled knife points mounted and spring tines to work direct into grassland or stubbles, the company’s direct drills come in various formats with both pneumatic and mechanical seed delivery as options. Advantage of the former is said to be more consistent supply to the coulter on steep slopes and the ability to distribute both grain and fertiliser down the spout at once. A clearly laid out colour touchscreen provides monitoring of all the drill’s vital stats as well as a super-easy calibration process.
With 12cm row spacing, the Kiwi drills are said to be suitable for both arable and grassland situations and power requirement is reckoned to be under 100hp for a 3m unit running at 8-12km/hr. While seeders up to 8m wide are available, 3m remains the most popular size.
Distributed in the UK by Notts-based UK Farm Agri, a 3m Taege box drill comes in at just shy of £30,000 while a twin tank air drill of the same width retails for closer to £45,000.
