Horsch is developing 18m versions of its Joker cultivator and Serto drill to join the 18m Avatar direct drill already on the market.

Prompted following growing demand for 18m variants of its existing products from customers looking to increase efficiency and productivity, Horsch is currently unable to provide us with any pictures of the wider Joker or Serto, which are still in development.

Ideal for stubble cultivation, mixing of harvest residues and seedbed preparation, the Joker RT can handle high amounts of straw, organic fertilisers or catch crops.

“Contractors and farmers are looking to work faster and more efficiently, to take advantage of tighter operating windows that are being brought on by changing climate conditions,” explains Stephen Burcham, general manager at Horsch UK.

“Our versatile min-till and direct drilling machinery have low draft requirements for their size, so moving to an 18m model does not require a huge jump in horsepower. This enables customers to do more with the tractors they already have.”

Currently available in working widths from 10m to 13.5m, the Serto SC compact seed drill folds to a transport width to 3m.

Transport is an issue with wider widths. The folding mechanism and twin axle on the 12m Joker RT, introduced in 2024, keep the transport height to 4m. It will be interesting to see how the wider Joker and Serto models will meet the 3m transport width requirement.

It is not known when the new models will break cover, but the serious betting money is likely to be in the second half of next year with the first public outing at Agritechnica 2027.
