Following on from last month’s tractor test of the 6250R, we had the opportunity to take a closer look at John Deere’s new generation of automatic headland control system

John Deere first offered its ITec Pro automatic headland turn system back in 2006. To make it tick, the system required the GreenStar 3 2630 display running ITec software to work alongside the tractor’s terminal. But it was not all plain sailing. The biggest disadvantage is that it didn’t communicate with the integrated ITec headland management system — the sequence of headland commands were either triggered manually by pressing the ITec button or automatically by the ITec terminal. You basically couldn’t use both features simultaneously. On top of this, having to input information into both the 2630 and the tractor display was time consuming, as pointed out in our headland comparison earlier this year.
