Driving impression: Accord m-drill Pro mounted seeder Accord and pneumatic drills have been synonymous for decades, so to hear that the company has ‘gone mechanical’ is news indeed. profi operates the company’s 3m m-drill Pro model, which builds proven components into a fresh seeder package
Accord invented the pneumatic drill way back in 1966 and, it has to be said, marketed the system very successfully. So successfully, in fact, that the company has never felt the need to offer a mechanical alternative – if one ignores a brief association with Sulky in the 1990s.
But all has now changed, it would seem.
Accord has produced a box drill with a mechanical metering system, which the firm has developed with Finnish manufacturer Junkkari Oy. Models with working widths of 2.5m, 3m and 4m are available as m-drill or m-drill Pro variants.
Main difference between the two versions – std and Pro – is in the operation of the bout markers: The m-drill has discs that project out to the sides when not in work, while the m-drill Pro prefers markers that are stored in a vertical position when not in use. Set to create a tractor centre line, the discs on our ‘Pro’ produced a very clear mark when operated in heavy soils. Vulnerable as they are, it was encouraging to note that Accord had fitted shear bolt protection for the markers.
