For the 2020 season Vicon is introducing its new fixed-chamber baler, the FixBale 500, which will be produced at the Ravenna plant in Italy. Described as a completely new machine, it still holds on to some familiar Vicon features, as we found when we caught up with a pre-production unit

Happy with the performance of the non-stop FastBale combi, Vicon has gone back to the drawing board for its standalone fixed-chamber offering and come up with the FixBale 500. So let’s get stuck into the hardware.

Hydraulic demands are a single-acting spool for controlling the pick-up, knife bank and drop floor, while a double-acting unit is used for the rear door. The drive shaft is sourced from Walterscheid and spins at 540rpm, sending power back to the gearbox, which also serves as a structural component. The pick-up is protected by a star ratchet clutch. five rows of controlled tines on the 2.30m wide pick-up are responsible for providing a clean sweep. The tine holders mount in four bearings, while the pick-up suspension is taken from the FastBale. The crop roller and feeding tines are all bigger than on the outgoing RF4325.
