Driving impression: Claas 770 TerraTrac combine he new generation of Lexions gets an updated cab, a different paint job and in one case, 40km/hr travel. On top of that, new CEMOS technology aims to optimise machine output via interaction with the Lexion driver

Fifteen years down the line and Claas continues to push the Lexion harvester brand onwards and upwards. For next season the range changes again, with the newcomers promising more output for less fuel consumption. So on the basis that it’s a good idea to go straight to the top, we sample the new range’s delights by driving the boss model 770 in Terra-Trac form. This APS Hybrid replaces the old 600, keeping engine power at 586hp (metric hp).

While the range’s new paintwork won’t necessarily hit existing operators in the eye, the re-jigged cab should. Measuring some 150mm longer and 150mm wider than before, it brings a bigger grain tank window and a better seat with an adjustable Cebis monitor on the armrest. Settle in and you’ll spot joystick differences too. While not finalised for production on the machine we used, the potential new version sits in the hand pretty well and puts switches for the header, reel, auto-guidance and emergency stop under thumb control; the auger and unloading are worked by your index finger, while your middle digit can extend and retract the Vario oilseed rape header’s table. Though this might sound complicated, it works well ergonomically.
