So, it’s here at last. After much UK rumour, speculation and denial, Claas has eventually bowed to the inevitable and changed the UK strip of the former Renault Celtis, Ares and Atles tractors – from Renault orange into Claas green. These are now fully fledged Claas products, and will be marketed as such, in the UK as well as in other countries.
Not that this comes as any great surprise. Following the announcement of the 2003 deal, in which Claas bought 51% of Renault, most industry pundits had reckoned that it was only a matter of time before Claas tractors were sold in green on this side of the Channel. And that time has now come. The distribution implications are many and complex, but we will leave closer scrutiny of those key issues for another occasion.
