A novel combine chaff collection system is allowing French farmers to not only make a bit of extra cash, but also reduce the incidence of weeds and volunteers

It all started following a request from a French farmer 15 years ago. Faced with increasing blackgrass problems, the request was for a system to collect small grains and weed seeds while combining. After puzzling all the options, Thierart’s novel solution was to collect harvest trash at the rear of the combine. Different formats have been added over the intervening years, and farmers quickly saw the merits of collecting chaff at the same time.
