Driving impression: Rumours that Case was to introduce a range of Steyr-built small tractors were confirmed at the end of last year with the introduction of the fivemodel Compact range. Complimenting the existing Doncaster-built 3200/4200 models, the Steyr based tractors are both lower and lighter. But there is more to it than that, as we found out when we drove a new 52kW/70hp C-70.

The height and weight of the 3200/4200 models has up until now been a problem for us in certain markets, admitted Rurik S. von Kotzebue, Managing Director of Case, Germany at last year’s Agritecnica show in Hanover. “The new C-series tractors are up to 500kg lighter and up to 18cm lower, and this will gain Case access to markets currently closed to the Doncaster models.”

While the tractors are not on sale in the UK they will appeal to farmers working in hilly terrain, added Mr von Kotzebue. Spanning outputs from 31kW (42hp) to 52kW (70hp), the five models are very different from the existing Case 3200/4200 series.
