Although we’ve assessed other brands of used vertical-auger tub feeders, the ace up the sleeve for a second-hand Siloking is that Kverneland offers repair kits that could make refurbishment of a worn machine viable. So, what should you look for?
Kverneland has been responsible for the sale and support of Siloking diet feeders since 2006, the company having seen its share of the market grow to the point where finding a pre-owned machine in the popular 10 to 20 ‘cube’ capacity shouldn’t be difficult.
In broad outline, the Siloking range can be divided into Classic, Duo and Premium models with capacities from 8m³ to 45m³. Kverneland suggests there is no such thing as a standard build Siloking mixer, with even its simplest of entry-level models coming with a host of spec choices. With this in mind, used buyers are advised to draw up a pre-buy specification wish list and then stick to it — there’s no point wasting time looking at mixers that do not have certain must-have spec features.
Among the most common options is a Twin Lift conveyor. First launched back in 2009, this versatile feed-out choice is now fitted to around 80% of Siloking models sold in the UK. In outline, Twin Lift allows mixed feed to be discharged at different heights to either side of the feeder. Twin Lift may be specified in addition to a side- or rear-door outlet.
